Ordinance 2020-36: An Ordinance Appropriating up to $3,000,000 to the Manager for a COVID-19 Nonprofit Sustainability Grant Program; Funding Provided by the CARES Act Special Revenue Fund.

MANAGER'S REPORT:

This ordinance would create a program to assist nonprofits with the financial hardship resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. It designates the Juneau Community Foundation as the grant administrator. The program is intended for nonprofits that provide services to the general public in the community and sets up a tiered approach for grants. Depending on annual revenue, a nonprofit can receive up to $99,000 under this program.

 

This topic was discussed by the Assembly Finance Committee on July 8 and July 23, 2020, and by the Committee of the Whole on July 20, 2020. This ordinance was introduced at the July 20, 2020 Special Assembly meeting. 

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Manager recommends the Assembly adopt this ordinance.
