This ordinance would authorize a $500,000 grant to Airlift Northwest to support emergency air transport services in Southeast Alaska through retaining the PC 12 Turboprop Plane. This plane is a critical component of Southeast Alaska’s healthcare infrastructure, as it can land on shorter runways and therefore better support many smaller communities in Southeast. Airlift Northwest has experienced a 50-70% decrease in flight volume and operating revenue since April, 2020 over prior year. Airlift Northwest is an entity of University of Washington Medicine, and is therefore ineligible for most of the CARES Act funds available to for-profit businesses and traditional nonprofits.
