Ordinance 2017-06(F) An Ordinance Appropriating to the Manager the Sum of $6,600 as Funding for the Juneau Public Libraries; Grant Funding Provided by the Alaska State Library.

MANAGER'S REPORT:

This ordinance appropriates $6,600 in grant funding to the Juneau Public Libraries, for the purpose of implementing the NASA@ My Library STEM education initiative.  NASA@ My Library is offered by the National Center for Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute in partnership with the American Library Association Public Programs Office, the Pacific Science Center, Cornerstones of Science, and the Education Development Center.

Grant funding is provided by the Alaska State Library.  This grant has a dollar for dollar matching requirement and is matched by staff time and expenditures on books and e-books that are already part of the library’s FY18 budget.

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Manager recommends this ordinance be introduced and set for public hearing at the next regular Assembly meeting.
